Powerful, Versatile Stereo Receiver with Built-in Phono Stage
You can have it all with the Cambridge Audio AXR85 stereo receiver. You can have great sound, powerful amplifier output, a built-in phono stage, and lots more features at an unbelievably affordable price. Best of all, you get Cambridge Audio quality all the way. Why settle for less?
The AXR85 boasts 85 watts of power, which is more than enough to fill your room with beautiful music or make two-channel movie watching, video, and TV come alive. There's also a built-in phono stage for turntables with Moving Magnet cartridges, a front panel 3.5mm input for iPod/MP3 players, built-in FM/AM radio with RDS and 30 presets, and four analogue inputs for connecting all your music, AV and audio sources. In addition, the built-in Bluetooth receiver allows you stream your favorite music from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Sensitive, Selective AM/FM Tuner
Enjoy your favorite FM music and public information stations, plus the news, music, and talk shows on AM with the AXR85. Its high sensitivity pulls in distant stations with the supplied antennas, and its selectivity helps keep interference from adjacent stations low.
Tuning is easy. The tuner preset buttons let you store and recall ten stations for FM and ten for AM. A further five presets (11-15) per band can also be accessed by using the Skip/Scan buttons to cycle through all fifteen presets.
Built-in MM Phono Stage
You can use your turntable with the AXR85 without the need for a separate phono stage by using the MM input for the built-in MM phono stage. This connection brings out the best in turntables equipped with phono cartridges of the Moving Magnet (MM) or high output Moving Coil (MC) type (between 2-6mV output and 30-50k load impedance).
Two Sets of Speaker Outputs
The AXR85 has two sets of binding posts on the rear panel (labeled A and B) for two sets of speakers. The Speaker B binding posts allow for a second set of speakers to be used (i.e. speakers located in another room). The Speaker A/B button on the front panel and remote control allows the two sets of speakers to be toggled on and off. Either A or B, or both A and B may be selected for use. When using two pairs of speakers, use speakers with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms each.
If your loudspeakers are equipped with two sets of terminals, then it is possible to use the dual binding posts pairs to connect them in the bi-wire configuration. Bi-wiring sends the bass and treble frequencies down separate speaker cables, resulting in a clearer, more focused sound.
Front Panel Display
The easy-to-read front panel display shows information such as the selected input source, volume level, and tone/balance level. When the FM or AM tuner input is selected, the radio frequency or RDS station name will be displayed.
Headphone Jack
Enjoy private listening with excellent sound quality. The handy front-panel headphone jack allows for the connection of stereo headphones with a 1/4-inch jack plug. Headphones with an impedance of between 32 and 600 ohms are recommended. Plugging in headphones will automatically mute the loudspeaker outputs.
