Control Platter Resonance for Better Sound
EAT's Massive Weight is an elegant platter puck offering optimized sound tuning. It perfectly couples the record to the platter and absorbs vibration very well due to its extreme mass.
Muting Resonance
Damping is everything. Most turntables can only sound dynamic and clean when resonances are muted. The worst offenders in the resonance department are often the record itself, the mat, and the turntable, resulting in audible vibration once the modern phono cartridge transmits the resonance. Although a myriad of techniques exists for controlling resonance, the most expensive and effective method is muting with mass. Vibrations are energy, and mass transforms vibrational energy into minute amounts of heat, which are easily dissipated.
This approach works very well, but only if the material itself not only has high mass but also has a strong inner damping. Modern metal alloys are ideal. Material and production of such metals can unfortunately be very expensive. Why does nobody do that, even though it's so easy? The EAT Massive Weight is a well-designed product featuring the latest in metallurgy technology manufactured on high-precision CNC machines.
Balanced, More Neutral Sound
When the EAT Massive Weight is used, the turntable gets a much higher level of kinetic energy. This in turn leads to better synchronization and better isolates the whole system from negative effects of the motor, too. The sonic result is more neutral and relaxed. The more balanced sound is neutral without any resonant 'boom' effect, making the music seem more dynamic with higher fine detail.
The EAT Massive Weight is an ideal upgrade for all turntable drives except models with a subchassis.
