Compact, Attractive, and Exceptional Full-Range Bookshelf Speaker
Compact, attractive, and exceptional – these are the qualities that always inspire loudspeaker development at ELAC's German manufacturing site in Kiel. The Solano BS 283 bookshelf reimagines these attributes while remaining faithful to the design principle, styling, and materials for a truly harmonious result.
The two-way, bass reflex BS 283 bookshelf speaker has a 6" aluminum and paper sandwich woofer with cast basket along with ELAC's famous JET5 tweeter. The frequency response is an impressive 41 Hz to 50 kHz, which you wouldn't expect from such a compact cabinet. It has two pairs of speaker connections for bi-wiring/bi-amping, too!
The Solano Series
Building on the success of the iconic ELAC 200 series, ELAC's Solano line maintains the 200's heritage and sound characteristics with a modern, contemporary design that is unmistakably ELAC. Solano improves upon the performance in a small, compact design and also adds attractive contours.
Key features include an aluminum and paper sandwich woofer with extended frequency response, plus the superb ELAC JET5 tweeter, offering wide dynamic range. The bi-wiring capabilities provide enhanced midrange capabilities, while the die cast bottom plate with an integrated double flanged super silent down-firing bass reflex port offers exceptional sound dispersion. The stylish aesthetics fit into any interior design.
JET5 Tweeter Technology
The JET5 tweeter is well-known around the world, for its state-of-the-art production and highly accurate reproduction of high-frequencies. Thanks to its construction principle and advanced materials, the JET5 is capable of reproducing audio signals with frequencies up to an incredible 50,000 Hz. Even though discrete frequencies above the acoustic range of the human ear cannot be heard, high frequency signals are important for the natural reproduction of the audio signals in the acoustic range. The ability to cope with ultra-high harmonics adds air and a sense of space for vivid realism. And the JET5's ultra-fast transient response results in impeccable detail resolution.
Sophisticated Woofer Design
Milled, sanded, lacquered, and anodized, the Solano series woofer with cast basket combines design and craftsmanship for a striking result. An aluminum cone is joined to the paper cone in a special gluing process to result in the desired sandwich construction for improved mechanical stability and excellent frequency response.
A complex crossover design facilitates the perfect blend between the JET5 tweeter and the aluminum sandwich woofer. This design was adapted from ELAC’s AS-XR cone technology.
Solano Cabinet Design
The solid rectangular MDF shape of the cabinet has a slightly curved, large front baffle for a compact but impressive look. The black finished speakers, have a painted, high-gloss finish, paired with matte black elements and black, anodized components, making this speaker truly elegant. The gloss-white finished speakers are visually arresting.
The base of the BS 283 and the FS 287 are made of one single piece of lacquered aluminum. They are seamlessly integrated into the cabinet design. Additional outriggers guarantee perfect stability for the FS 287. The down-firing, bass reflex port tube provides sound output in all directions for easy positioning.
Bi-Wirable Speaker Terminals
Thanks to the bi-wiring terminal, three different connection are possible: single-wiring, bi-wiring, or bi-amping. For the classical single wiring, the Solano series speakers include gold-plated adapter bridges providing minimal contact resistance and optimum signal transmission.
Bi-wiring eliminates intermodulation distortions between bass and midrange/treble and offers the possibility for individual sound tuning by choosing different cables. Bi-amping splits the load to two amplifiers for maximum precision. Choose the connection that works best with your audio components for best overall performance.
