Gobs of Power and a Wide, Detailed Soundstage
Enjoy massive power for your headphones and superior sound from the sleek and stylish EF400. It's a modern DAC/amp solution with a compact footprint and price to match, but with sonics that outperform products many times its size.
"The HiFiMan EF400 is a DAC/headphone amplifier that provides great sound quality and will power a wide variety of headphones," reports Gene Hopstetter in his review for Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity. "Its selling price delivers quite a bit of versatility, and it should be easy to implement within a wide variety of devices with USB output."
"The HiFiMan EF4000 is an elegant piece of gear that is simple to use but has a sophisticated sound signature that’s slightly bright tilted, rather neutral, and natural but it punches hard when it has to," notes Louis, headphonics.com, October 19, 2022. "Construction is hefty, to say the least, and you will realize that the first time you hold one physically. The front panel has a balanced-looking design that will look good anywhere you place it..."
Discrete HIMALAYA DAC
In 2012, Dr. Fang Bian and his team at HiFiMan introduced the EF6, the legendary desktop DAC/amplifier that delivers gobs of power and a wide, detailed soundstage. Ten years later, HiFiMan is proud to introduce the new model EF400, which incorporates the best of recently developed technologies, especially the company’s advanced HIMALAYA R2R DAC.
The HIMALAYA is a discrete R2R DAC module that is based on the FPGA algorithm. The combinations of its low audio frequency range, out-of-band noise, and low energy consumption make it a perfect match for high-performance audio equipment. The HIMALAYA DAC module supports the standard PCM music signal transmitted by the most common IIS (Integrated Interface of Sound) audio interface, with a maximum resolution of 24Bit.
Fully Balanced Design
The four-channel differential structure features a DAC, buffer, and active filter that add up to unbeatable fully-balanced output for a Class AB DAC/amplifier.
The four-channel fully differential amplifier circuit features a maximum output of 10.7 Vrms on a 36Ω resistor equivalent load. The result is fully balanced output beyond compare.
Oodles of Connectivity
Allowing you to take maximum advantage of the EF400's capabilities is a wealth of connectivity choices. It boasts four front panel headphone outputs consisting of a 6.35mm single-ended, 3.5mm single-ended, 4.4mm balanced, and XLR 4-pin balanced output. The rear panel includes an XLR balanced stereo output pair and an RCA single-ended stereo output pair. Also onboard are USB Type C and USB Type B connections.
A four-level front panel control lets you select High Gain NOS (No Oversampling), High Gain OS (Oversampling), Low Gain NOS NOS (No Oversampling), or Low Gain OS NOS (Oversampling) to tailor the output perfectly for your headphones. There is also a high-quality volume control.
