"Completely Neutral and Accurate" DSD DAC
England's Musical Fidelity was one of the very first, if not the first hi-fi company in the world to make a digital-to-analog converter. Talk about being on the cutting edge. And ever since that time, Musical Fidelity has remained right on the forefront of DAC performance technology. All of the company's DACs have offered industry-leading, envelope-pushing performance, not to mention Musical Fidelity's guiding philosophy of fair pricing and outstanding build quality.
The company waited before becoming involved with DSD playback in its digital gear because the technology was, to say the least, very fluid. The wait is over, though. After many years of patient research and development, Musical Fidelity has launched its MX DSD DAC. And, as the saying goes, the wait was definitely worth it.
Outstanding Technical Performance
The new MX DAC is a tremendous performer. It's a true triple threat, boasting ultra-low distortion, very wide bandwidth, and low noise. As a matter of fact, the outstanding technical performance of the MX-DAC is on a par with any other DAC on the market at absolutely any price. Jitter is about 12pps, signal-to-noise ratio is -116dB (‘A’ weighted), linearity is +0.2dB at -116dB, and stereo separation is -104dB at 1 kHz. Furthermore, frequency response is ruler flat, and distortion is a mind-bogglingly low 0.00025% at 1 kHz and 0.0003% at 20 kHz.
"These technical figures are state-of-the-art, and they demonstrate that our implementation is almost perfect," notes Musical Fidelity's founder and CEO Antony Michaelson. "This ensures completely neutral and accurate digital-to-analog conversion of any digital input."
All of the Digital Inputs You Need
The MX DAC doesn't skimp on digital inputs. It provides 2 x optical (up to 24-bit/96 kHz), 2 x coaxial (up to 24-bit/192 kHz) and asynchronous USB (up to 24-bit/192 kHz). Importantly, since it offers stellar DSD playback, the MX DAC also has inputs for DSD 64 kHz and 128 kHz.
Even more crucially, all inputs – whether from optical, coaxial, or USB – are processed in the DSD domain. This desirable feature gives a warmth and humanity to the sound quality of your music that simple digital conversion just doesn’t achieve.
The MX DAC has single-ended RCA analog outputs for compatibility with a huge range of AV gear as well as XLR balanced outputs for the ultimate audiophile experience.
MX Excellence
The new MX product line from Musical Fidelity has beautiful aesthetics and wonderful build quality. The front panel and housing are both from exclusive custom-made extrusions using Mil-spec aluminum.
The MX DAC represents truly outstanding value for money. Its combination of superlative technical performance, technical innovation, build quality and value should prove a compelling commercial proposition as well.
