Features and Technology Usually Reserved for More Expensive Turntables
It’s only natural to use the word "studio" in the name of a Mobile Fidelity turntable, as doing so brings together MoFi’s software and hardware sides. And while it’s MoFi's entry-level offering, StudioDeck produces high-caliber sound at a value price. Designed in collaboration with some of the world's finest audio designers, StudioDeck features an incredible amount of ingenuity and technology usually reserved for much more expensive products.
The sound-first fundamentals extend to the custom-developed Studio tonearm, a 10" straight aluminum gimbaled bearing design whose rigidity and tracking prowess translate into accurate information retrieval. The adjustable tracking force, VTA, azimuth, and enhanced anti-skate give you profound options for tweaks and adjustments. And there's more. A steel and Teflon inverted bearing system provides StudioDeck with smooth, quiet playback stability.
Isolated AC Synchronous Motor
MoFi’s stepped-pulley AC motor provides excellent speed stability for pitch accuracy and rhythmic drive. The Delrin® pulley has two positions for 33-1/3 and 45 RPM speed selection. Motor vibrations are kept away from the platter and stylus by the use of advanced dampening materials that decouple the motor from the rest of the turntable.
Anti-Vibration Feet and High-Mass Body
Any vibration of the stylus that is not created by the grooves in the record is a distortion that will mask musical detail. Developed in conjunction with the engineering team at Harmonic Resolution Systems, the world leader in vibration isolation for audio equipment, the included MoFi anti-vibration feet isolate your turntable from bad vibrations.
Additionally, the StudioDeck features three aluminum plates carefully bonded to an MDF body to add mass and eliminate tonal coloration, maintaining the true sound found on the record.
3/4"-Thick Delrin Platter
Like all Mobile Fidelity products, every component of StudioDeck derives from tireless experimentation, meticulous evaluation, and listening tests. All parts and materials are chosen and developed strictly on the basis of their sonic benefits. Mobile Fidelity's meticulous oversight of every detail begins with a 3.88-pound, 3/4" platter comprised of Delrin, a high-strength, low-friction polymer selected because its highly crystalline structure makes for a great impedance match with vinyl and grounds unwanted noise.
Choice of Three Optional Cartridges
You can order the StudioDeck without a phono cartridge, using one of your own. You can also order it with one of three superb MoFi cartridges.
The elliptical stylus of the dual magnet StudioTracker MM cartridge allows it to dig deep into record grooves to extract hidden cues, deliver heightened levels of information retrieval, and solidly convey analog’s prized bottom end frequencies.
The UltraTracker dual magnet MM cartridge surrounds its V-Twin motor with a damped billet aluminum body to provide superior bass definition and slam. The upgraded nude elliptical stylus has low tip mass for superior tracking and extraction of fine details.
The MasterTracker dual magnet MM cartridge features pure Ohno continuous-cast copper coils and a Micro Linear diamond stylus. The result is surgical precision, pinpoint accuracy, and a purist-based sonic picture of what was cut in the studio.
