Outstanding Product Award - Hi-Fi News Magazine
"Capable, Composed, and Unfussy"
The Monitor Audio Silver 50 7G bookshelf speaker offers performance of a large speaker in a much smaller package. Designed to give you the deep, rich bass extension usually only found in a larger floorstander, the Silver 50 7G bookshelf speakers are an excellent choice when space is at a premium. It’s engineered for the kind of real-world spaces we live in, which means Monitor Audio optimized the bass for scenarios like being placed close to a wall.
"Superbly Built and Finished"
"The Silver 50s are capable, composed and unfussy. For some, these could be the ideal speakers," notes What Hi-Fi?, May 31, 2018. "While a two-way rear-ported standmounter recipe is hardly novel, Monitor Audio has honed it to a high level in these speakers. For starters, they are superbly built and finished."
"A genuine bookshelf speaker with an install-me-anywhere attitude, the Silver 50 7G is a perfect partner for a bijou amp and easy to drive, too," observes Marc Craven, Hi-Fi News magazine, January 18, 2022, which honored the 50 7G with an Outstanding Product Award. "Low-end lovers might look warily at its 135mm bass/mid driver, but this dimpled dome puts on a fine show, helping craft a sound that's rich, deep and unfatiguing, but also responsive and detailed. Add the fashion parade looks to the equation, and it's hard not to love."
You'll Enjoy Pinpoint Clarity
With a choice of real-wood veneers and finishes, you’ll find the perfect look to fit your home. And most importantly of all, thanks to the new Rigid Surface Technology (RST) II mid-bass driver design, you’ll enjoy pinpoint clarity in every track.
The Silver 50 7G has a 1" C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter with Uniform Dispersion (UD) Waveguide II for more lifelike sound and a 5-1/4" C-CAM mid-bass driver with Rigid Surface Technology (RST) II for extra clarity. Rear-ported and tuned for ease of positioning without affecting sound performance, this speaker is perfect for smaller stereo music set-ups, or as front/rear channels in smaller home theater systems. Compact and bookshelf-friendly, it comes with rubber stopper feet and is offered in a choice of Satin White and High Gloss Black finishes or real wood veneers Black Oak, Natural Walnut, and Ash.
"Punches Way Above Its Price Point"
Commenting on the reflex ported design, stereonet reviewer James Michael Hughes stated in his April 12, 2023 write-up, "the 50's bass is freer and warmer than a typical sealed-enclosure design. In my room, the bottom end was well-controlled."
Taken by "the brilliance and clarity", James added "the crisp, precise stereo imagery was also very impressive… This proved a great system with a sound that punches way above its price point."
The Seventh Generation Silver Series
Ever since the Monitor Audio Silver Series was introduced in 1999, it has set standards where performance, finish and value for money are concerned. And with the new seventh generation, Monitor Audio has put even more distance between the Silver Series and its nominal competition. The seventh generation of the Silver Series features a brand-new, contemporary design in a choice of five high-quality finishes, numerous acoustic innovations and a model line-up extensive enough to cater for every music and home theater requirement.
New Rigid Surface Technology (RST) II Driver Design
The New Rigid Surface Technology (RST) II Driver uses an aluminum alloy that improves the tensile strength of the cone while retaining all the benefits of Monitor Audio's C-CAM technology – low distortion, high power handling, excellent directivity. Drivers can go louder for longer without compromise.
New C-CAM Tweeter Design
A completely new magnet structure and rear chamber design are among the invisible improvements to the new C-CAM Tweeter Design. The new Uniform Dispersion Waveguide II and compression ring are much more visible now. And the end result of the extensive redesign is thrillingly clean and accurate treble response.
New Crossover Design
Splitting the incoming signal between tweeter and mid/bass driver is an art in and of itself. Monitor Audio's new crossover design for the Seventh Generation Silver Series works sympathetically with the drivers to deliver perfect tonal balance.
New Tweeter and Driver Trims
By minimizing the appearance of the mid/bass driver surround, and by making a feature of the tweeter protection dispersion pattern, both the look and the performance of the speaker is enhanced.
New Cabinet Design and Finishes
Crisply drawn edges define the new Silver Series 7G cabinets, and the choice of five luxurious finishes, including three real-wood veneers, creates a look that’s both contemporary and timeless.
"Toward the Top of the Crop"
"Build quality is nice and I have no complaints. It’s worth mentioning the unique midwoofer mounting method here which employs the use of a bolt which threads through the magnet portion of the drive unit to pull the speaker into the cabinet from the rear of the speaker. This, in theory at least, will reduce unwanted resonances otherwise imparted onto the cabinet when a drive unit is mounted via the basket (screws through the flange)," notes erinsaudiocorner.com, November 102, 2022.
"Overall, I think this is a good speaker when used slightly off-axis. Comparing this to other bookshelf speakers of its size (using a 5-inch midwoofer) this speaker seems to be toward the top of the crop in regards to distortion and compression. And the linearity (aside from the rise in treble) is smooth."
