    "Beautiful and Sturdy"

If you're in the market for a beautiful and sturdy audio rack or audio shelf unit, this one will do it," says Rick Coste in a February 2024 installment of "The Joy of Vinyl Records" on YouTube.

"There's something about this color that I really like, and Parawood's a very beautiful and sturdy wood from a rubber tree<" Rick continues. "The bottom of the stand also has spiked feet to minimize vibration. Not only is the shelf unit itself solid, but it really is aesthetically pleasing to look at."

In Residential Tech Today magazine, Jeremy Glowacki reports that the Parawood Rack "takes advantage of the solid and rugged characteristics of the light-colored, sustainable hardwood material. Parawood is produced from the Para rubber tree, known for a solid, compacted structure that lasts for decades. It is much tougher than other timber like pine, which means it is much less likely to scratch."

The Search for a Sustainable Hardwood

After the original black finish was such a big hit, Pangea expanded its shelf finishes to include two vinyl hardwood finishes – rosenut and espresso – and then high-tech-looking carbon fiber vinyl. For Vulcan rack customers who expressed a craving for a natural wood finish, the Pangea design team began searching for a wood that was beautiful, readily available, and sustainably harvested.

Out of dozens of wood samples Pangea received during fifteen months of research, one stood out from all the rest. The sample was labeled "Parawood," and it was gorgeous. In addition to its marvelous grain pattern, its density was perfect for an attractive butcher block-style construction. Best of all, it was readily available.

Pangea learned Parawood was readily available because Para trees had been planted in vast quantities throughout southeast Asia, where the sap was used to produce natural rubber. After twenty-five years or so, these trees stopped producing large quantities of sap, so they were harvested and replaced by new trees. This process produced a steady and abundant supply of sustainably-harvested Parawood.

    Strong, Stable, Rigid Design

Pangea Audio's Vulcan Audio Component Rack is so strong, stable, and rigid, that Pangea named it after the Roman god of fire, who was famous for his metal forging expertise. And as another famous Vulcan might well say, the Vulcan audio rack makes a "most logical" enhancement to your music system.

Not only is the Vulcan audio rack strong, it's also expandable. The ingenious design lets you add or subtract shelves as needed, and it's jammed full of audiophile features that help coax the best performance from your AV gear. What more could you ask for? How about Vulcan's unexpectedly low price?

    Positive Feedback Magazine Award Winner

Positive Feedback magazine honored the Vulcan rack with a Writer's Choice Award for 2017. Lamenting the general lack of affordable racks and stands for budget-conscious audiophiles, Steve Lefkowicz notes that "Pangea Audio (sold through Audio Advisor) has taken up the void with a very nice and effective set of racks and stands at very reasonable prices."

According to Steve's review in Positive Feedback, "I used two of these racks in my exhibit at the LA Audio… and they both played great even with the powerful bass of the big Tekton Double Impacts. I added an extra shelf to one and a taller 10-inch extension to one shelf for a total price of just $280 for both racks."

    Super Strong and Easily Expandable

Vulcan is beautifully engineered. Its design features steel support tubes connected by threaded rods, creating a super strong and ultra-rigid rack you can assemble in minutes without the need to dip into your toolbox.

You can conveniently add or remove shelves for as many as six shelves in all as your equipment needs change. One user said about the design that adding shelves was as easy as changing a light bulb. Just flip the Vulcan upside down to add shelves from the bottom or remove the top caps and add a shelf to the top.

Most self-assembly racks aren't very rigid. Thanks to the unique design of the Vulcan, it is extremely stable and strong in addition to being acoustically neutral.

Holds a System's Worth of Components

The Vulcan Parawood rack holds a system's worth of electronic components, boasting four generously sized 23.75" wide, 18" deep, and 0.8"-thick solid Parawood shelves. The Parawood sustainable tropical hardwood shelves are assembled in an attractive butcher block-style construction that emphasizes the beauty of the wood grain, then the shelves receive a durable, hand-polished clear semi-gloss finish. The front and sides of the shelves are contoured for a streamlined look.

Vulcan supports up to 85 lbs. per shelf and 340 lbs. total capacity per rack. The height between shelves is 8.75" above the lower shelf and 7.25" between the top shelves. The width between shelf supports is 19.4".

Open-Air Design is Best for Your Gear

The open-air design is best for your electronics. The design maximizes component ventilation and makes it easy to install or remove gear. The four steel support tubes feature scratch-resistant and resonance-resistant silver-finish powder coat paint.

Innovative Cone Point Feet and Spike Design

Vulcan features innovatively designed cone point feet and spikes. The steel floor spikes go all the way through the cones and into the bottom shelf tubes for greater strength and better energy transfer from the rack into the floor. The tapered cones are made of a very durable polymer, which dampens vibrations between the steel floor spikes and the steel rack tubes.

Options include an Add-A-Shelf Kit with 7.25" supports, extended-height 10" support tubes for tall gear, easy-to-add casters and level-glide feet, two different heights of storage drawers, and the Vulcan Amp Floor Stand.

Now I must have an affinity for Pangea products, because these stands that the Klipsch [speakers] are sitting on coincidentally are also from Pangea Audio…"
