User-Friendly Rega Turntable with Built-in MM Phono Stage

Turntables just don't get any easier to set up and use with your hi-fi or AV system than the new Rega Planar 1 Plus. That's because the Planar 1 Plus comes with its own built-in MM phono stage, so you don't need an outboard phono preamp and you also don't need a receiver or integrated amp with a special phono or turntable input. You can connect the Planar 1 Plus to any line level input using a standard pair of RCA cables. That's all there is to the hook up. Nothing could be simpler in turntable land!

Surpassing even the bestselling Rega Planar 1, the Planar 1 Plus is now the most user-friendly Rega turntable to date. If you are looking to get back into vinyl and want serious performance that will last you a lifetime, then look no further than the Planar 1 Plus.

The Planar 1 Plus benefits from all of the advantages of its sibling, the Planar 1, such as the low noise 24v motor, precision hub bearing assembly and hand-made RB110 tonearm with a factory fitted Rega Carbon cartridge. Set-up remains possible in as little as 30 seconds.

    Five Star-Rated Built-in Phono Stage

Rega's engineers asked themselves, how do we make the most successful turntable we have ever made sound better, be even easier to use and be more accessible to a wider audience? The answer was simple. Rega's engineers added a custom designed, high quality, moving magnet phono stage based around the multi-award winning Rega Fono Mini phono preamp, which won a top rating of Five Stars from England's What Hi-Fi? magazine.

For the Planar 1 Plus, Rega wanted to optimize this circuit for ultimate performance. So they removed the USB interface and used the money saved to improve what was already a stunning disc stage.

The new built in stage offers the ability to connect the Planar 1 Plus directly to almost any system that has a standard line input via a standard RCA-to-RCA cable (supplied) or your own RCA-to-3.5mm cable. Simply put, there is no need to purchase a standalone phono stage or use an amplifier with a built-in stage. Your Planar 1 Plus will connect directly to any standard Line Level input (such as you would connect a CD player to).

There are obvious audio advantages to housing the phono stage directly beneath the tonearm. The carefully shielded tonearm wire is soldered directly to the stage which prevents any unwanted pick up via the usual external cable between the arm and stage.

    "Rega Delivers Another Winner"

"Rega delivers another winner – the Planar 1 Plus is the perfect marriage of convenience and sound quality," reports What Hi-fi? magazine, May 29, 2018. "While some may prefer the Planar 1/Fono set-up’s brawny sound, we find the sprightly nature of the Planar 1 Plus more fun to listen to. Either way, Rega has struck gold in combining two superb products into one."

"With the Planar 1 Plus, Rega has managed to crease a turntable that is utterly untaxing to set up and use, that still delivers the qualities that we have come to expect from the company… [A]s a beautifully realized one-stop shop for high-quality analogue playback, it certainly takes some beating," notes Hi-fi Choice magazine, July 2018

    "Performed Fantastic"

"The P1 Plus performed fantastic, regardless of system context or program material chosen," raves Jeff Dorgay in TONEAudio magazine.

"As someone who has owned and reviewed nearly every turntable Rega has made for the last 35 years, I remain astounded at how they keep refining this platform. There is no easier record playing platform than Rega’s Planar 1 Plus, and I doubt a better value either. Definitely Exceptional Value Award material!"

    New RB110 Tonearm Offers Plug-and-Play Set-up

The Planar's RB110 tonearm is built with the new Rega-designed, bespoke, zero play bearings with ultra-low friction performance, new bias assembly, and integrated arm clip. The automatic bias adjustment negates the need for the user to set bias, making this the most plug-and-play turntable that Rega has ever manufactured.

Thanks to the ingenious preset bias force feature, the Planar 1 sets up in seconds after unpacking. Simply slide the balance weight onto the rear of the tonearm as far as it will go, remove the stylus guard, and start spinning your favorite vinyl.

Another tonearm feature is a new ergonomically redesigned and stiffer headshell for improved usability and appearance – plus a 111g plug-and-play balance weight.

    Includes Rega Carbon Cartridge

Rega designed the Planar 1 Plus so that it's ready to go right out of the box. There's no cartridge to buy or specify. Included and pre-mounted is Rega's great-sounding Carbon moving magnet cartridge, supplied as standard.

    Beautiful New Thermoset Plinth

The Planar 1 Plus boasts the new Thermoset laminated plinth with vastly improved appearance and a new ergonomically positioned on/off switch located on the underside. Stunning plinth finishes are available that will look fantastic in your listening room or living room. Supporting the plinth, new improved feet increase stability and reduce vibration transfer.

    A Brand New Platter, Too

Just like the Planar 1, the Planar 1 Plus includes an innovative 23mm-thick (0.9"-thick), higher mass, phenolic platter with improved flywheel effect for improved speed stability. The re-designed brass main bearing, offering improved fit and removing stress on the bearing itself whilst minimizing the transfer of potential energy.

Spinning the platter comes another huge goodie. The Planar 1 and Planar 1 Plus are the first entry level Rega turntables ever to use a 24-volt synchronous AC motor along with a new motor PCB and aluminum pulley offering low noise and better speed stability. A new motor cover tray provides integrated cooling.

    Redesigned Feet

If all of these other features aren't enough, the Rega 1 Plus boasts new improved feet to increase stability and reduce vibration transfer. Rega thought of everything to make this an entry level table that delivers 'forever' performance.

"The P1 Plus performed fantastic, regardless of system context or program material chosen. And for those of you that are super geeky, I did use my Analog Magik software suite to check the P1 Plus’ speed. Right on the money, as it has been with the last say, 14 Rega tables we’ve reviewed. Rega’s belt drive system has been refined over four decades now, yet their engineering staff is always trying to make their tables a better value and better performer than the models they replace. Having been to the Rega factory a few times now, the place is a model of efficiency."
