Single-Speed 78-RPM Turntable That "Makes Music"

The single-speed Rega Planar 78 turntable has been designed and engineered to achieve outstanding performance way beyond the expectations of a product at this price point. Using our latest 24 V motor technology, the new Planar 78 is also fitted with the latest RB220 precision tonearm.

Designed solely for the reproduction of 78 rpm records, The Planar 78 omits any unnecessary gimmicks, allowing Rega to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately. The minimalist design of the Planar 78 and the use of extremely high quality components ensure that your turntable should last for many years.

"I have started enjoying Enrico Caruso," reports reviewer mvno_subscriber at vinylengine.com. "I have several acoustic recordings that distorted heavily and were unpleasant to listen to when Caruso strutted his stuff. Now, they make music."

    Includes Rega RB220 Tonearm

The RB220 offers astonishing performance and is one of Rega’s bestselling tonearms. An evolution of the famous RB250, which was supplied as standard on early Planar 2 and P2 turntable, the RB220 uses Rega's patent pending ultra-lightweight, high quality polymer bearing and selected, high quality vertical and horizontal bearings.

The tonearm uses Rega's die-cast tube and the three-point fixing technique based on the mounting design system. This system reduces stress on the plinth and tonearm and offers greater stability though the arm. All of this translates into more music for you the listener.

    Flywheel Effect Platter

The flywheel effect platter is made of phenolic resin and contributes to the impressive speed stability of the Planar 78. Rega turntables are designed to optimize performance for music reproduction and therefore no compromises have been made to give quick start times. The normal time taken for full 78 speed to be achieved is between 10 and 15 seconds.

    Optional Rega RB78 Phono Cartridge

For best results, use the Rega Planar 78 with the optional Rega RB78 phono cartridge, which is designed exclusively for playing 78 rpm records. This hand-built mono moving magnet cartridge in a custom Rega body and an elliptical profile diamond stylus takes your favorite 78 records to new heights. Stereo cartridges made for 33-1/3 rpm records just can't compete with the RB78.
