A High-End 12-Inch Tonearm Comes to an Affordable Audiophile 'Table</3>
VPI's new Prime Extended turntable is a 'spin-off' from Mat Weisfeld's original Prime turntable that amps up Prime's performance by including a mounted 12" JMW 3D Unipivot tonearm. This is a big deal, because it finally gives vinyl enthusiasts the chance to experience the benefits of a 12" VPI tonearm at an affordable price.
With the original-model Prime, VPI decided to get back to its roots with a 'table that offered quality hi-end sound while taking advantage of VPI's improvements in technology. And now the 12" JMW 3D Unipivot tonearm takes the Prime into all new high-performance territory.
A Curvier, Sexier Look
The shape of the Prime (and Prime Extended) is meant to have a curvier and sexier look compared to the look of "classic" VPI tables. At same time, it has the footprint to accommodate the space needed for a premium 12" tonearm. VPI was able to keep the price of the 3D tonearm affordable due to the company's improved technology along with increased volume in 3D printing and supply.
In addition to its 12" JMW 3D Unipivot tonearm, the Prime Extended also includes a Classic 20 pound platter and bearing, a VTA Tower for VTA/SRA on the fly, an outboard 300 RPM motor housing, Prime feet that offer superior isolation and mechanical grounding, and a stainless steel/Delrin record clamp.
Advanced Construction and Isolation
The Prime Extended's chassis is made of black textured vinyl over MDF with an 11-gauge steel plate bonded to the underside for the ultimate in resonance control and feedback rejection. In a first for any turntable, four solid Delrin corner assemblies provide isolation and mechanical grounding working in partnership with the new Prime feet.
A Serious Synchronous Motor and 20-Pound Platter
Prime Extended uses a 300-rpm, 24-pole AC synchronous motor capable of high torque and quiet operation. For superior isolation, the motor is installed in a separate aluminum and steel machined assembly.
For unsurpassed speed stability, Prime boasts a 20-pound damped platter machined from 6061 aluminum to an astonishing +/- .001” tolerance in a 39” circumference. The inverted bearing consists of a hardened stainless steel shaft plus a 60 Rockwell chrome hardened ball spinning in a phosphor bronze bushing and sitting on a PEEK thrust disc. The belt side load is placed at the center of the spinning bearing for zero 'teeter-totter' effects.
The motor pulley has an accuracy of +/- .0005” when leaving VPI's factory and has a wow and flutter rating of >0.1%, speed accuracy of >0.03% and rumble of >85db down.
12" JMW 3D Unipivot Tonearm
The 12" JMW 3D Unipivot Tonearm is made with 3D-printed technology and uses materials consisting of, but not limited to, epoxy resin and Delrin Internal wiring is a very high quality VPI copper weave.
This tonearm features adjustability for maximum compatibility with your cartridge. Features include an adjustable drop counterweight, azimuth side weights, VTA, and a Limo connection.
